My trip to visit USA
Part I : to introduce again my
trip to USA
There are some certain reasons
for any trips and my trip as well. This time , we have expected to visit USA in
three weeks for at least three main reasons as following :
1/firstly,
we would expect to attend My youngest daughter’s graduation from BA of
Chemistry in Wayne State University and then attending her ceremony to join the
The Phi Beta Kappa Society - It is an academic honor
society. Its mission is to "celebrate and advocate excellence in the liberal
arts and sciences";
and induct "the most outstanding students of arts and sciences at
America’s leading colleges and universities." Founded at The College of William and Mary on
December 5, 1776, as the first collegiate Greek-letter fraternity,
it is also the oldest honor society for the liberal arts and sciences and among
the oldest undergraduate societies in the United
States. Phi Beta Kappa (ΦΒΚ) stands for Φιλοσοφία Βίου Κυβερνήτης or philosophia biou kybernētēs —
"Love of learning is the guide of life".
2/secondly, I would visit “DMC”
(Detroit Medical Center) for my career in the future if possible. DMC is really
Hi-Tech Medical Center in Detroit, especially in Cancer Center and visited some
places in Detroit such as Detroit River, headquarter of GMC, Bell Island and
some churches in this region
3/thirdly, We have organized a
travel by car to visit some states from California to Arizona. We have flied to
California and then My son in law used “car rental service” , we used this way
to travel to some places in California like Hollywood City , Disney Land and Museum
of modern Arts and so on …and then we went to Nevada, visiting the City of entertainment-
Las Vegas, we have stayed here for two days and played some gambles here. And
then we have traveled to see “Hoover Dam’ , once known as Boulder Dam,
is a concrete
arch-gravity
dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the US states
of Arizona and
Nevada. It was
constructed between 1931 and 1936 during the Great
Depression and was dedicated on September 30, 1935, by President Franklin Roosevelt. Its construction was the
result of a massive effort involving thousands of workers, and cost over one
hundred lives. The dam was controversially named in honor of President Herbert
Hoover.
Hoover
Dam impounds Lake
Mead, and is located near Boulder City, Nevada, a municipality
originally constructed for workers on the construction project, about
25 mi (40 km) southeast of Las
Vegas, Nevada. The dam's generators provide power for public and private
utilities in Nevada, Arizona, and California.
Hoover Dam is a major tourist attraction; nearly a million people tour the dam
each year. Heavily travelled U.S. 93 ran along the dam's crest until October 2010, when
the Hoover Dam Bypass opened.
And we
have traveled to Arizona to see the Grand Canyon and stood on the skywalk
The Grand
Canyon is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado
River in the United States in the state of Arizona. It is
largely contained within the Grand Canyon National Park, one of the
first national parks in the United States. The Grand
Canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, up to 18 miles (29 km)
wide and attains a depth of over a mile (6,000 feet / 1,800 meters) Nearly
two billion years of the Earth's geological history have been exposed as the Colorado
River and its tributaries cut their channels
through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado
Plateau was uplifted. While the specific geologic processes and
timing that formed the Grand Canyon are the subject of debate by geologists,
recent evidence suggests the Colorado River established its course through the
canyon at least 17 million years ago. Since that time, the Colorado River
continued to erode and form the canyon to its present-day configuration.
Before
European immigration, the area was inhabited by Native Americans who built
settlements within the canyon and its many caves. The Pueblo
people considered the Grand Canyon ("Ongtupqa" in Hopi
language) a holy site and made pilgrimages to it. The first European known
to have viewed the Grand Canyon was García López de Cárdenas from Spain, who
arrived in 1540.
Part II: some feelings and impressions about this
trip
This was the second time I have been in USA, and
of course , this trip have given me many wonderful memories
At first sight, I recognized and witnessed many
things happening in one of the most civilized countries. Everything seems to be
in good order, particularly in housing and traffic system. I didn’t see anyone
outside their house in business hours. It might be that they have had to work.
In rush hours, there were also traffic jams but all cars have kept the traffic
law . Everything has been happening like a well-running machine . American
lifestyle seems to be like that and those who dislike it couldn’t tolerate this
life because American always keep and respect the privacy , they would be upset
or discomfort with the non-invited guests but they are willing to help anyone
if necessary. Talents , outstanding people were all used appropriately and “Brain
drain” seemed never happen in USA . All things left an indelible imprint in my
mind.
The American Society is not also, however, a
paradise or heaven. This society couldn’t accept or give room for the laziest.
Everyone has good chance to have job if they know how to find it
But anyhow, some visitors often think about the
saying “ east or west, home is the best”. It means that every people has their
own cultural characteristics. So for coming to final decision where you want to
live is not easy for some , especially for those who are finding another place
to stay like me
