Prevention of Both HAV and HEV

  • Prevention of both HAV and HEV requires minimizing the risk of fecal contamination of food or water products, which may be difficult in areas with poor sanitation or where human waste is used as fertilizer
    • Precautions include use of only purified water; boiling of fruits and vegetables or only eating thick skinned fruits; ensuring surface contamination does not enter food products during cutting
  • For prolonged visits to high-risk areas (more than a few weeks), vaccination should be considered
