Goal of HCV therapy

• Goal of HCV therapy is virologic cure defined as SVR after HCV therapy is discontinued
• SVR associated with decreases in all-cause mortality, liver-related death, liver-related complications, need for liver transplantation, and incidence of hepatocellular cancer[Morgan 2010; Veldt 2007]
  • Patients with history of advanced fibrosis/cirrhosis may remain at increased risk of liver cancer even after SVR, requiring ongoing monitoring[Shiffman 2009]
